  • THE BRIEF

THE CASE OF CALEX HOLLAND

Calex Holland is a heritage Dutch lighting brand with a product range that spans traditional LED bulbs, decorative filament lighting, and a full smart home ecosystem of app-controlled colour bulbs, voice-integrated light sources, and connected fixtures. Trusted across Europe for decades, the brand now sits at the intersection of two very different categories: classic lighting hardware and modern connected devices. The website needed to do justice to both, without picking sides.

The brief had three immovable constraints. The new storefront had to serve every European market the brand sold into, in multiple languages, without splitting calex.eu into a maze of country-specific sites. It had to carry a unified consumer and Calex Professional experience, with the trade channel accessible from the same domain but logic-gated for verified business customers with their own pricing and ordering workflows. And it had to integrate cleanly with the Calex Smart Home app, so the journey from buying a connected bulb to pairing it with the app felt like one brand experience, not a handoff between disconnected systems.

    KICKOFF

Founders meet founders. Two days, on site or video, to map the actual scope of the build. We come out with a shared definition of what "launched" means, what's in scope, what's not, and what the rollback plan looks like if something goes sideways. No fifty-page strategy deck. The kickoff doc fits on three pages.

    THE BUILD

The senior team takes it from there. Theme work, integrations, B2B logic, custom development, all running in parallel instead of in serial phases. We stand up a staging environment in week one and demo every Friday. You see the build come together in real time, not at the big reveal.

  • WHAT WE DID
THIS IS SYK-LED STOREFRONT
The complexity wasn't in any single moving part. It was in the combination: a deep product catalogue with extensive variant logic, multi-language storefronts running on Shopify Markets, a B2B layer sharing the same platform as the consumer storefront, and a post-purchase flow that needed to route into a connected app ecosystem. All of it built on our framework, all of it shipped together.
MULTI-COUNTRY, MULTI-LANGUAGE STOREFRONT
Calex.eu serves [number] European markets through Shopify Markets. Currency switching, language routing, and country-specific shipping logic all run through a single store, not a network of separate sites. Translation structure is set up so content can be updated in one master language and propagated cleanly. SEO foundations include hreflang tags across all language variants and country-specific canonical structure for organic indexability per market.
A CUSTOM STOREBUILD ON THE SYK THEME FRAMEWORK
The visible storefront is custom from end to end, built on the same theme framework that powers our fifteen themes in the Shopify Theme Store. Cinematic product imagery, editorial Key Features sections, "Buy more, save more" tier pricing built into the PDP layout, configurable bundles, fast Add to Cart with Klarna, iDEAL, WERO, and Bancontact surfaced for the European customer. Designed for high-velocity retail with deep catalogue ranges, not minimal-product brand pages.

BUILT ON OUR PREMIER FRAMEWORK

Custom storebuilds at SYK don't start from zero. They start on our own framework, built on top of the fifteen themes we ship in the Shopify Theme Store. Same performance floor, same accessibility, much deeper for client-specific design and logic. Custom work, shipped at theme-build speed.

    THE LAUNCH

Migration through Syncer when it's a replatform. Fresh setup when it's a new build. Either way, the cutover happens on a window we agree in writing, with the rollback plan rehearsed and the team on standby. Most launches go quiet. The dramatic ones are the ones to worry about.

  • Step 4 icon
    AFTER-CARE

We don't ship and ghost. The senior team stays on the build for thirty days after launch to handle the things you only see when real customers start using it. After that, you can keep us on a retainer or take the build in-house. The store is yours, not ours.
